The event is organized by the Kalimpong District Badminton Association and supported by the West Bengal Badminton Association. Young shuttlers showcased their skills, competing enthusiastically in the talent hunt aimed at identifying promising players at the grassroots level.

Kalimpong United Runners Host Successful 2nd Edition of 5k & 10k Event


Kalimpong, March 16: The Kalimpong United Runners organized the second edition of their 5k and 10k running events today, witnessing an impressive turnout of over 1,500 runners from across the country and beyond. Participants hailed from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Nepal, and Sikkim.

The event was graced by notable sports personalities, including Olympian Bharat Chhetri and Marathon Man Amar Subba, who inspired the runners with their presence.

In the 5k open male category, Manoj Biswakarma claimed first place, followed by Sriram Raimajhi and Riki Dorje. Among 5k open females, Priya Chhetri led the pack, with Minal Kumari Subba and Binita Kami securing second and third positions.

The 10k open male category saw Vivek Chhetri emerge victorious, while Suraj Rai and Vinit Rathi finished second and third. In the 10k open female category, Bandana Subba took top honors, followed by Tejaswini Lambkane and Lakshmi Chauhan. The event promoted fitness and community spirit in the region.

RSA Bijanbari Lifts Algarah Gold Cup Title


Kalimpong, March 15: The Algarah Gold Cup football tournament, organised by Sporting Club Algarah at Algarah Higher Secondary School from March 6, concluded today with RSA Bijanbari emerging as champions.

In the final, RSA Bijanbari edged past CSA Chuchon Sikkim by a narrow 1-0 margin despite inclement weather. The winners received ₹2 lakhs and the trophy, while runners-up CSA Chuchon Sikkim took home ₹1 lakh.

A U-17 girls' friendly match was also played between Kalimpong and Darjeeling, with Kalimpong winning 1-0. The tournament officials included Birman Mukhia, Dandip Yonzon, Trilok Rai, and Kismat Basnet.

Chess Training Concludes at Rotary Club, Kalimpong; New Sessions Announced


Kalimpong, February 16: The six-month chess training program organized by the Rotary Club of Kalimpong successfully concluded on February 15th, with a prize distribution ceremony celebrating the achievements of its trainees.

Among the 20 participants, Drishti Rai secured the first position. JHOLUNG, FEB 7: The Todey-Tangta Traditional Archers successfully hosted the Inter-Gram Panchayat Recurve Archery Knockout Championship 2026 at Todya playground on 7th February. The tournament saw Lava United emerge victorious, securing the championship title, while Bhutia Brothers finished as runners-up.

For their triumph, Lava United was awarded a cash prize of ₹80,000, with the runners-up receiving ₹50,000. Individual accolades highlighted standout performances, with Lakpa Bhutia named Player of the Match and Vijay Tamang honoured as the Player of the Championship.

Kalimpong, December 3: The Kalimpong District Badminton Association (KDBA) underwent a leadership transition today, electing a new executive committee during a meeting chaired by Mr. Anil Lopchan.

The assembly unanimously elected Mr. Nil Kumar Rai as the President and Mr. Tshering Tamang as the Vice-President. Mr. Anil Lopchan was appointed as the Secretary, with Prabin Lama and Narendra Kumar Tamang serving as Joint Secretaries. The first round of the Gitdabling Inter-GPU Open Archery Tournament 2025, organised by Chuebong Club at Lower Beong Archery Field on 19 th April, saw an exciting knockout match between Pakyong United and Rongkup Kalimpong. Pakyong United emerged victorious with 56 points against Rongkup Kalimpong’s 36 points.

Ganga Maya Thapa, aged 74, secured third place in the 10-kilometre Kalimpong run held on 13TH April in the 60+ women's category. The event was organised by Kalimpong United Runners Club, and she completed the run in 1 hour 46 minutes.

A proud member of Project Life, Ganga Maya has become an inspiration for both young and senior athletes, proving that age is no barrier to fitness.

Previously, she placed third in the Changgu Ultra Run (45+ women category) and served as brand ambassador for the Darap 13K Trail Run. She will also represent the upcoming Kalimpong Ultra Run 2025.

Kalimpong Ultramarathon 2025 to Be Held on April 26


The Run with Roshni Foundation (RWRF) is all set to host the 3rd edition of the Kalimpong Ultramarathon on April 26, 2025 . Launched in 2021, the initiative aims to nurture local talent and provide a platform for aspiring runners from the hills. This year’s event features five race categories: 90 km, 65 km, 42 km, 21 km, and 12 km specially introduced category (open to runners aged 14 years and above ).

In a major incentive, the top three boys and girls in the 21 km category , and one boy and one girl from the 12 km race will be sponsored by RWRF to represent Kalimpong in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025 . Additionally, all finishers of the 12 km and 21 km races will be eligible to run the 2026 Mumbai Marathon with logistical support from the foundation. At the 7th National Masters Games 2025 Archery Competition , held at Birsa Munda Stadium, Rourkela, Odisha from 6th March to 9th March, Latik Lepcha (60 years old) secured a gold medal in the above 55 years Indian bow event . In a proud moment for the family, her daughter, Paril Lepcha , also clinched gold in the above 30 years compound bow event .

The first-ever Inter-State Hockey Tournament in the hills will take place from March 13 to 16 at 16th Mile, Upper Payong . This historic event, initiated by former Indian hockey team captain Bharat Chhetri , is named the Late K.B. Chhetri Gold Cup Invitational in honour of his late father. The tournament is supported by GTA and will be held at the newly constructed stadium.

The competition will feature Under-17 girls and Under-16 boys in a 5-a-side format . Prize money will be awarded to the winning teams. So far, teams from Bihar, West Bengal, Darjeeling, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Arunachal Pradesh have confirmed their participation.

Kickboxers from Kalimpong delivered an impressive performance at the 4th WAKO India Open International Kickboxing Tournament , held at Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, from February 1 to 5 . The team, trained under coach Yuvraj Rai , competed against over 1,000 participants from 15 countries .

Several athletes from Kalimpong secured medals in different categories:
- Salomi Khati won silver in the K1 event (52kg) .

The final match featured Kumai Gram Panchayat against Dalgaon Gram Panchayat, with Kumai emerging victorious. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of ₹15,000, while the runners-up received ₹10,000.

The 38 Number Constituency Open Archery Tournament, organised by Warrior Brothers Saylay, concluded with Lava United clinching the title in a nail-biting final against Linkay United East Sikkim. The event, held at the Saylay Archery Playground, aimed to promote archery among youth and witnessed participation from 46 young archers representing Kalimpong district and Sikkim.

In the thrilling final, Lava United edged past Linkay United with a narrow score of 50-48, securing the championship. The winners were awarded a cash prize of ₹40,000 and a winner's trophy, while the runners-up received ₹30,000 and a trophy.

Bong Gram Panchayat Celebrates Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary with Volleyball Tournament


To mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Bong Gram Panchayat organised an inter-constituency volleyball tournament at Upper Salimbong NLYC Ground. The preliminary matches for male and female teams were held on January 11 and 12, while the grand finale took place on January 15, accompanied by cultural programs that enlivened the event.

Under the joint initiative of NYK Darjeeling and Sporting Club Alagarah, a Block-Level Sports Competition was held on 1st January at Alagarah playground for the Lava block. Duka Tribal Junior High School and Duka Primary School celebrated their annual sports day on 26th November with great enthusiasm. The event began with the unfurling of the school flag by the chief guest, Sendup Lama, followed by an impressive march past by the students.

The sports day featured a variety of events for boys and girls, including 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m races, relay races, hand archery, tug-of-war, and more. After a day of spirited competition, Blue House emerged as the overall winner, followed by Yellow House as first runners-up and Green House as second runners-up.

The Sangsay Mangal Dhura Kalyan Samiti is set to host the Cinchona Gold Cup 2024 at Sangsay starting 29th November. Formerly known as the Cinchona Challenge Cup, the tournament has been renamed this year.

The event will feature teams from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Siliguri, Sikkim, Bhutan, and nearby regions, with reputed teams expected to showcase their skills.

Barood Thapa, advisor of the organising committee, emphasised that the tournament aims to motivate local talent by providing a platform to compete with skilled players. The event promises an exciting display of football, continuing its legacy of fostering sportsmanship and talent in the region.




Kalimpong Karate Team Wins 7 Medals at West Bengal Karate Championship


The Kalimpong District Karate Team delivered an impressive performance at the 26th West Bengal Karate Championship 2024, held on 15th and 16th November at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, Kolkata. The team secured a total of seven medals across various categories.  

Aarav Sunar and Jigel Bhutia won silver medals for their outstanding performances, while Kaviya Gurung, Gyalchen Lepcha, Aaroh Chettri, and Namgyal Tamang bagged bronze medals in their respective events. In the veteran category, Sujata Rai earned a silver medal, showcasing her skill and experience.

Under-14 Inter-District Championship 2024: Kalimpong to Host Group G Match


The Under-14 Inter-District Championship 2024, featuring 24 districts of West Bengal, is set to kick off, organized by the West Bengal Indian Football Association (WBIFA) in collaboration with the West Bengal Government's Youth and Sports Department.  


In Group G, Kalimpong will face Siliguri in an exciting match at Mela Ground, Kalimpong, on 12th November. The winner of this match will advance to the second round, scheduled from 18th to 21st November, with the top-performing teams moving on to the semifinals in Kolkata.  


The Kalimpong team, consisting of 20 players from various schools, is being coached by Ashish Sharma and Lyan Mangar. This championship is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the budding football talent in the region.

3rd Bidur Rai Memorial Football Tournament Kicks Off in Dalman Gaon


The 3rd Bidur Rai Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Bidur Rai Foundation and Buhari Samaj Dalman Gaon, commenced at Dhanmaya Playground in Dalman Gaon, Bhalukhop.
