The Badminton Association of India's decision marks a significant milestone for the state. The Badminton Association of Sikkim expressed gratitude to BAI President Himanta Biswa Sarma, General Secretary Sanjay Mishra, and the Executive Committee.

Tsomgo Ultra 4.0 Set for March 9 with Snow Lion as Mascot
The Tsomgo Ultra 4.0 is scheduled to take place on March 9 , with Snow Lion as its official mascot. The event features four race categories— 10K, 21K, 42K, and 75K , with divisions for open and 45+ age groups .
Speaking at a press conference, race director Amor Boris Lepcha stated that the ultra-run aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, mental health, and other social issues . The 75K Ultra Marathon and 42K Full Marathon are exclusive to the state. Runners in these categories must have completed a 21K or full marathon in the past 18 months due to the event’s high-altitude challenges.
A timing chip will be used for accurate tracking, allowing participants to use their results for future races. Due to high demand, entry deadlines have been extended to February 28 , with a cap of 350 participants . The winners will receive medals, certificates, and a total cash prize pool of ₹8 lakhs .
Four-Time Olympian Tarundeep Rai Leads Sikkim’s Hopes at 38th National Games
Four-time Olympian archer Tarundeep Rai is set to represent Sikkim for the first time in the upcoming 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, carrying the state’s hopes for a gold medal. Final Selection Camp for State Sports Academy Underway at Paljor Stadium
The final selection camp for the State Sports Academy football program, organised by the State Sports Department, began on Saturday at Paljor Stadium. A total of 86 under-16 football talents were shortlisted from district-level trials conducted in November-December last year.
From this group, 30 players will be selected to join the State Sports Academy, where they will train daily under expert coaches while continuing their education. The final list will be announced on February 4.
The selection panel includes football coaches Puspa Gurung and Sonam Pintso Bhutia, assisted by national footballers Vivek Bhutia and Ronald Rai. Officials hope the initiative will revive the academy and groom future national and international footballers from Sikkim.

Singtam’s young chess players showcased remarkable talent at the 22nd North East FIDE Chess Tournament held in Udaipur, Tripura, from December 17 to 21.

Manasvi secured third place in the Under-11 girls’ category, while Palak achieved fifth place in the Under-9 girls’ category. Phurba Tamang, widely known as the "Marathon Girl of Sikkim," has brought immense pride to the state by clinching the silver medal in the 25K Tata Steel Kolkata Marathon in the 25-29 years age category. The event, held in Kolkata, saw Phurba completing the grueling race in an impressive 1 hour, 52 minutes, and 27 seconds, securing the second position.
She finished ahead of Bandasharai Marwein of Meghalaya, while Puja Mondol of West Bengal claimed the top spot. Trilok dominated the senior category by securing gold in the Individual Poomsae Event and the Senior Men’s Team Event. He further cemented his supremacy by winning the prestigious Champion of Champions Tournament, an elite contest among the top-performing athletes at the championship.
Trilok’s success extends beyond the national arena. Earlier this year, in January 2024, he bagged a gold medal at the Good Will International Taekwondo Championship held in Kolkata. The team is set to represent the State in the final round of the 29th Senior Women’s National Football Championship for the prestigious Raj Mata Juabai Trophy 2024-25. The tournament will commence in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, on December 11.

The Sikkim Chapter of Special Olympics Bharat (SOB), under the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” organized a one-day Special Olympics event at Kyongsa Playground, Gyalshing, today. The program was held under the aegis of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan of the Education Department, Government of Sikkim.
The event was chaired by Zilla Adakshya Mr. D.S. Limboo and graced by District Collector Gyalshing Ms. Yishey D. Yongda as the Special Guest. Sikkim Team to Compete in Sub Junior Nationals Badminton Championship
The Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) has announced a team of five young players to represent the State in the Sub Junior Nationals, organized by the Badminton Association of India (BAI). The tournament will be held in Jammu from 27th to 30th November.
The team, comprising Sandeepan Shilal, Poorvansh Prashad, Alwin Rai, Suravi Gurung, and Aakriti Adhikari, is led by chief coach Sameer Gurung. Accompanied by two officials, these talented athletes have shown exceptional promise in their age category.

Sikkim is set to host the inaugural edition of the Sikkim Open International Karate Championship from 28th to 30th January 2025 at the indoor gymnasium of Paljor Stadium Complex, Gangtok. Organized by the Sikkim State Karate-Do Association (SSKA), the three-day championship is expected to witness participation from over 1000 karatekas representing Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and various Indian states.

Sikkim Sports Department Begins U-16 Football Selection Trials
The Sikkim government’s sports department has commenced district-level selection trials for under-16 boys' football players starting 17th November. A total of 92 enthusiastic young players are participating in the trials, vying for a spot among the final 14 players who will represent their district at the prestigious matches scheduled to be held at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, on 22nd and 23rd December.
The trials aim to identify and nurture young talent in the state, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills at a higher level. Gangtok, November 6, 2024: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Madam Krishna Rai attended the finale of the 10th Sikkim Inter Church Gold Cup Football Tournament at Paljor Stadium on Monday evening. Organised by the Sikkim Christian Sports Committee, the tournament was elevated to Gold Cup status following last year’s announcement by the Chief Minister.
In a thrilling final, Baptist United defeated Brothers in Christ 3-0, securing the championship. Both winners and runners-up received cash prizes, trophies, and medals. The Chief Minister congratulated the winners, organising committee, and participants for the tournament's success. The committee expressed gratitude for his continued support toward the event and the Christian community. The evening included vibrant cultural performances by local and guest artists.
Governor Gold Cup At Gangtok
After a four-year hiatus, Sikkim’s premier football event, the Governor’s Gold Cup, returns to Paljor Stadium from November 8 to 21 with sixteen teams, including four international clubs from Malaysia, Dubai, Nepal, and Bhutan. The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) confirmed that the Nepalese and Bhutanese champions are set to compete, while participation from Malaysia and Dubai awaits government clearances. Sikkim Police and Gangtok Himalayan SC will represent Sikkim, alongside teams from ISL, I-League, and Kolkata leagues, including Northeast United FC and Gokulam Kerala FC. Organized under Chief Minister PS Golay’s guidance, the tournament aims to boost local football fervor.
Team Chess Championship at Gangtok
Sikkim is set to host the first-ever Northeast Team Chess Championship from October 20 to 23 at Janta Bhawan, Gangtok, organized by the Sikkim Chess Association (SCA) under the All India Chess Federation. All eight northeastern states will participate, with each team comprising five players competing in a round-robin format, where each team faces all others at least once. The top three teams will win cash prizes of Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh, and Rs 1 lakh from a total prize fund of Rs 5 lakh. SCA’s team includes Thendup Tamang, Rohit Gurung, Rahul Gurung, Saurav Subba, and Nirav Dhakal.
