The 18th edition of the Sukna Gold Cup, organized jointly by the Sukna Games and Sports Association and the GTA Youth and Sports Department, began on 5th January at Sukna. The prestigious tournament features participation from 20 teams representing Bhutan, Nepal, Kolkata, and local teams, making it a grand sporting event.

The opening match was a high-intensity encounter between Milan Samiti, Kolkata, and Red Horse FC, Ilam, Nepal. In a closely contested international-level game, Milan Samiti secured a 1-0 victory, showcasing exceptional teamwork and skill.

The tournament offers a cash prize of ₹3 lakhs and the Winner’s Trophy for the champions, while the runners-up will receive ₹2 lakhs and a trophy.

The Sukna Gold Cup continues to attract football enthusiasts and remains a platform for fostering sportsmanship and cultural exchange among teams from different regions.

Core Energy Gym Hosts Bench Press and Deadlift Tournament

organised a Bench Press and Deadlift Tournament for its members on 31st December at Kurseong, attracting 51 participants, including 32 males and 19 females. The event showcased strength and determination among the gym’s members.

The title of Strong Man was awarded to Lakshman Hari, while Rubina Khatoon earned the Strong Woman title for their exceptional performances. All winners and participants were honoured with medals and certificates for their efforts.

The event was graced by guests Nordip Chhetri and Sandip Chettri, who encouraged participants. A special highlight was a bodybuilding skills display by Sonam Tamang, which added excitement and inspiration to the event.

Kurseong Karate Team Excels at International Tournament in Nepal

The team achieved remarkable success at the International Karate Tournament held in Birtamode, Nepal, on December 21 and 22.

Led by Coach Kishan Rajak and Head Coach Mahadev Routh, the 10-member team brought home nine medals, including four golds. The gold medalists—Anshu Rajak, Samir Kumar Pradhan, Mir Sayad Mustafa Raja, and Yash Kumar Gupta—showcased outstanding skills and determination in the highly competitive event.

The team’s performance not only brought laurels to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) but also made the nation proud on an international platform.

Coaches Rajak and Routh expressed pride in their team’s achievements, emphasizing the hard work and discipline that went into preparing for the event. Mungpoo, November 6, 2024: The Mungpoo Youth Club organized the Mungpoo Gold Cup 2024, with the thrilling final match held at Jan Maidan, Mungpoo. UKFC emerged as champions, defeating the runners-up, Himalayan Sporting Club from Sikkim, after an intense 60-minute match. Satish Rai was named the tournament’s best player for his outstanding performance.
